Sensei Don Trussell

Sensei Trussell founded Leon County Judo Club back in 1969 in Tallahassee. As a judoka he competed at both state and national levels, he began teaching judo in 1968 and in 1980 along with a team brought to life Judo in the Sunshine State Games, from 1983  to 1990 Sensei Trussell was the Judo coordinator for the games. Sensei Trussell also coached three members of the USA Olympic Judo Team, earned a B.S. Degree from Florida State University and was a reserve police officer in the state of Florida. These barely scratch the surface of the man Sensei Trussell was in judo. After more than 50 years of unparalleled work in the Judo community, on March 14th of 2016 Sensei Don Trussell passed away, he was awarded a HachiDan, eighth degree black belt posthumously. He is greatly loved, and will be irrefutably missed.
